Independent midwife services in South London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent

I have a passion for home births and water births. Having an empathetic understanding of the emotional highs and lows of pregnancy and the transition to parenthood, I relish the opportunity to build close relationships with my client’s, their families and even their pets. Mine is a vocation rather than a job, I feel that being a midwife is a part of who I am and not just what I do. I passionately believe that birth is a joyful celebration that can be positive, whatever the place or type of birth, with the right support and emotional preparation.

To prepare for my vocation I trained at St Mary’s Hospital, Manchester where I gained experience in caring for women having hospital births. I was keen to gain experience of more natural birth environments and have worked as a midwife both at an NHS birth Centre and the UK’s first private birth centre.

I became the Practice Manager at the Birth Centre, enabling me to continue practicing as an independent midwife whilst performing a management role. I continued to care for families and attend

births, whilst running the practice day to day. My responsibilities included recruitment, training midwives, customer service, monitoring standards and the adherence to statutory health and safety requirements. I continue to provide a consultancy service when called upon.

I am a Cognitive Hypnotherapist, NLP and EFT practitioner, experienced in using hypnosis for birth. I love using the additional techniques I have learnt to facilitate women to draw on their own strengths and innate power, to meet the challenges of birth. I have supported many women to utilise hypnotherapy techniques during pregnancy to reduce or alleviate any fears and aid physical comfort and as a tool to minimise and manage the sensations of labour.

I have contributed to a number of newspaper reports and have had professional articles published in various Midwifery journals.

I feel that individualised, one to one care is vital. It allows me to build relationships with my clients and their families and have the luxury of time and continuity to learn about their specific needs and expectations within the context of their own home and family.
